Technical Procurement Manager

We are looking for a Technical Procurement Manager to take ownership of the contracts that turn these projects into reality - leading OEM, EPC and BOP negotiations, shaping sourcing strategy, and managing commercial risk and opportunities in the construction of BESS, solar and wind projects, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of contractual issues. 


ABOUT THE ROLE


Based in Tokyo, this role combines strategic sourcing, complex contract negotiation, and commercial risk management to support the successful delivery of large-scale renewable energy projects.


  • Lead OEM and EPC/BOP contract negotiations in close collaboration with Legal Counsel and Project Managers
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies, managing procurement packages end-to-end from RFT through negotiation, governance, and contract award
  • Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and opportunities, tracking contract values against project budgets
  • Ensure all sourcing and contracting activities comply with company policies, governance frameworks, and applicable Japanese regulations
  • Represent the company in procurement matters within delegated authority and escalate key risks where required
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with OEMs, EPC/BOP contractors, and suppliers in the Japanese renewable energy market
  • Contribute to market intelligence, including pricing, supplier capacity, and industry trends
  • Support a strong HSE culture and contribute positively to team collaboration and performance
     

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE


We expect you are a commercially sharp procurement professional who thrives at the interface between technical and commercial worlds. To succeed in this role, you will bring:


  • 5–10 years of procurement experience in the renewable energy sector in Japan
  • A qualification in Construction, Project Management, or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong experience reading and negotiating OEM and BOP/EPC contracts, preferably in renewable energy
  • Proven experience developing negotiation strategies and leading commercial negotiation
  • Experience in BESS and/or solar projects; wind experience is preferred
  • Deep understanding of the risks and opportunities in the construction of BESS, wind and solar projects
  • Strong electrical engineering literacy enabling technical discussions and review of specifications for transmission lines, transformers, and substations- ideally supported by procurement experience and a working understanding of civil works scope, is highly desirable.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with familiarity in business cases, budgeting and commercial outcomes.
  • Analytical mindset, able to distill complex topics into clear, structured summaries
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with a client-centric approach
  • Strategic thinking with strong risk-anticipation capabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including delegation, consultation and facilitating teamwork
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and deliver within designated timeframes
  • strong sense of ownership and accountability, and the ability to work effectively in a multinational reporting environment
  • Professional proficiency in both English and Japanese
