As our Primary School Counsellor, you will help ensure a safe, inclusive, and caring school climate for students from Pre-K to Grade 5. You will play a central role in delivering age-appropriate guidance, short-term counselling, and student wellbeing initiatives that support both individuals and the broader school community.
You will collaborate closely with teachers, learning support staff, leaders, and families to promote resilience, belonging, and emotional growth for all learners.
As Primary School Counsellor, you will:
Deliver a developmentally appropriate counselling programme
Provide short-term individual and group support to students
Co-teach guidance lessons focused on social-emotional learning
Attend Student Study Team (SST) meetings and contribute expertise
Collaborate with teachers, parents, and student support colleagues
Maintain confidential documentation and track wellbeing progress
Refer to and coordinate with external professionals when needed

You’ll work closely with the Director of Student Support, Primary Counsellor Coordinator, the Primary Leadership Team, Learning Support teachers, and school nurses.
This is a full-time paternity cover position from 16 February 2026 until the end of the school term in June 2026 (19 June 2026). You’ll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team working in a school that prioritises student wellbeing.
You are a compassionate, calm, and collaborative professional with a strong understanding of child development. You’re committed to inclusion, proactive in your approach, and skilled at building trust with students, colleagues, and families.
A Master’s degree in School Counselling or a related field
Experience supporting primary-aged students in a school context
Knowledge of ISCA/ASCA frameworks and trauma-informed practices
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Cultural competence and commitment to inclusion and student voice
Fluency in English; additional languages are an asset
International or IB PYP experience preferred
