Our R&D department consists of 12 sharp minds of different nationalities. There is a great sense of team spirit in the department, and as the team enjoys each other’s company they most often prioritize having lunch together.

Bera Pálsdóttir, who will be your manager, leads the department with expert guidance, prioritizing both well-being and professional development. She is passionate and has many years of experience within fiber development at OFS.
 

Your New Exciting Job
As a Development Engineer, you will play a crucial role in every stage of the innovation process, from conceptualization to product launch. You will mainly work on fibers for submarine applications, but also for other specialty applications. Your focus will be on designing fibers and improving our understanding of the design, glass, and processes that create world-class submarine fiber. With the increasing demand for internet capacity, the requirements for world-class fibers are continually evolving. You will be a part of a team that is driving innovation in optical fiber technology.

Key responsibilities:

• Design and test ideas that increase quality and capacity of submarine fibers, including new multicore fibers.
• Participate in fabricating prototypes of these designs, thereby being involved in the full circle from idea to prototypes and ultimately, products ready for customer testing.
• Present your findings and engage in discussions with colleagues, while also documenting your work.
• Manage stakeholders and coordinate across various in-house functions.

Qualifications
 We imagine that our new colleague has the following qualifications:

• Holds a master’s or PhD degree in engineering or a related technical field, within physics, material science, chemistry, or similar subjects.
• Demonstrates curiosity, adaptability, and a drive for tackling new challenges.
• Possesses strong interpersonal skills for thriving in collaboration and global teams.
• Exhibits a strong sense of responsibility towards their work, working in a structured and proactive manner while also embracing flexibility and innovation. 
• Is fluent in English, both spoken and written, for seamless cross-cultural collaboration and communication.
